Gonzaga university

Gonzaga College began in 1881 with $ 936 dollars in hard money. She bought Gonzaga founder, Father Joseph Cataldo, SJ, 320 acres of land and water, what people have seen "the old piece of gravel near the grave." Six years later, the College officially opened its doors to its construction as "scholastic youth, whose ambition is to become priests." Exclusively for boys, became the College responsible for Jesuit priests. Registration for the year 1887 -1888 academics were 18 boys and young men.

Today, known as Gonzaga University, a private education for four years older. More than 105 buildings dot the campus of 131 acres overlooking the Spokane River. Students are both women and men, who can enroll in a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. Registration for the year 2009-10 was 7.837 university students.

A constant throughout the year is the teaching of philosophy from Gonzaga, based on the Ignatian model of secular education of the whole person - body, mind and spirit. In Gonzaga, students learn how to integrate science and art, faith and reason, action and contemplation. "Cura personalis" or care of people is our guideline.
